Assistant Propagator Position
We are a small native plant nursery seeking a talented individual with at least a year of plant nursery or horticultural experience, to assist in all stages of the nursery’s operations, and the growing and maintenance of healthy and quality native plants. The position requires a qualified candidate to lead in propagation at the nursery and assist in other work including, but not limited to, plant care, seed harvesting, care of a native seed bank, and customer service. Applicants must be passionate about the production and care of native plants, and overall mission of the nursery and sister company Helia Land Design, to rebuild habitat and support biodiversity.
Job Duties: Monitor inventory of nursery stock, diagnose and address any problems with plants; such as nutrient deficiencies, soil, pest and/or disease problems, frost damage and over watering, investigate responses of soils to specific management practices, study soil characteristics and develop methods to investigate soil problems, supervise volunteers and assign work schedules, implement policies and regulations, pull plant orders, ability to work long physical days outdoors, extended hours and some weekend during peak growing season, pack seed orders, assist customers on sale days and operate POS system, monitor irrigation system and watering needs.
Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable mode of transportation. Experience: 1+ years of experience in greenhouse/plant nursery, farm management, and/or a Degree in Horticulture preferred. Individuals should have a solid understanding of plant care and basic propagation techniques, as well as a strong ability to identify native northeast herbaceous perennial wildflowers, grasses and ferns.
